How to play Plants vs Zombies
Plants vs Zombies (PvZ) is a tower defense game where your lawn is the battlefield. Zombies shuffle in from the right, and the plants you place on the grid have to stop them before they reach your house.
- Collect sunClick the sun that falls from the sky and pops out of your Sunflowers. Sun is your money.
- Pick a seedClick a seed packet in the bar at the top. Each plant costs sun and needs time to recharge.
- Plant itClick a tile on the lawn. Plants only defend their own row, so cover every lane.
- Hold the linePeashooters shoot, Wall-nuts block, Cherry Bombs clear crowds. The lawn mower is your last chance.
- Survive the wavesThe flag meter shows your progress. Beat the final wave to win a new plant.

Fires one pea at a time down its lane. Your bread-and-butter attacker.
Sunflower☀ 50
Makes extra sun about every 24 seconds. Plant these first.
Wall-nut☀ 50
Tough shell that stalls zombies while your shooters work.
Cherry Bomb☀ 150
Explodes in a 3x3 area. One-shots almost any group.
Snow Pea☀ 175
Frozen peas slow zombies down as they take damage.
Repeater☀ 200
Fires two peas per shot: double a Peashooter's damage.
Potato Mine☀ 25
Cheap trap. Arms after a few seconds, then blows up the first zombie.
Chomper☀ 150
Swallows a zombie whole, then chews slowly. Great vs. tough zombies.
Squash☀ 50
Crushes the first zombie that gets close. Perfect emergency fix.

Peas that pass through turn into fire peas with double damage.

Lets you plant non-aquatic plants on the pool lanes.

Zombie
Slow and steady. Two Peashooters handle him.
Conehead Zombie
Traffic cone doubles his health.
Buckethead Zombie
Metal bucket: about 6x a basic zombie. Use Chompers or bombs.
Pole Vaulting Zombie
Jumps over the first plant. Put a Tall-nut in front.
Newspaper Zombie
Gets angry and fast once his paper is gone.
Football Zombie
Fast and heavily armored. Save a Cherry Bomb for him.
Dancing Zombie
Summons backup dancers in the lanes around him.
Flag Zombie
Marks the start of a huge wave. Get ready.
Strategy tips
- Build your economy first: aim for 6–8 Sunflowers before you spend big on attackers.
- Leave no lane empty. One Peashooter per row early on beats three in a single row.
- Save Cherry Bombs and Squash for tight groups or Football zombies, not lone walkers.
- Wall-nuts in the front column buy time for the shooters behind them.
- On pool levels put down Lily Pads first, then plant on top of them.
- Night levels drop almost no sun from the sky. Use cheap mushrooms like Puff-shroom and Sun-shroom.

PopCap Games released Plants vs Zombies in 2009. Its cute art, simple controls and real strategy made it one of the best-loved tower defense games ever, with tens of millions of players across PC, consoles and phones.
The full game has 50 Adventure levels across the day lawn, night lawn, pool, fog and roof, plus 49 plants, 26 zombie types, mini-games, puzzle modes and the Zen Garden.
